DENVER -- Big crowds and a lack of parking are causing major problems for people who live near the new Trader Joe's store at E. 8th Avenue and Colorado Boulevard.
Residents launched a petition drive that asks city leaders to untangle the traffic jam on their streets.
People who live there say parking has been a mess ever since the store opened February 14.
There are only about 70 spaces in the store's parking lot, so shoppers are scouring the neighborhood looking for street parking.
Residents say it has turned into a real battle. "Fighting, actual fighting in the street over parking spaces," Mary says. "There were two ladies up here and there was yelling and horns were honking and, oh, it was a mess."
Other residents who have had homes listed for sale in the area since before the Trader Joe's opened have said they may take their homes off the market. They say potential buyers probably won't like seeing the traffic chaos on their streets.
One city council member says leaders will have traffic engineers look at the problem to see if anything can be done to relieve parking congestion.
