Colo. Springs educator arrested on sexual assault charge

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — An education assistant was taken into police custody Tuesday after allegations involving an inappropriate relationship with a student.

Benjamin Wilkerson, an education assistant at Coronado High School in Colorado Springs, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust, according the the Colorado Springs Police Department.

Police said the department’s Crimes Against Children Unit received a report Tuesday from the school resource officer at the high school regarding an alleged inappropriate relationship between a student and a teacher.

Investigators determined there was inappropriate relationship between the individuals, police said.

Following the investigation, Wilkerson was taken into custody and taken to the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center, said police.
