Police: Man impersonates fire official, attacks woman at her home
DENVER — A man forced his way into a home and assaulted the female resident Friday after he told the victim he was there to inspect a gas leak.
At approximately 6:45 p.m. Friday, a man knocked on the door of a house on the 8500 block of E. Alameda Avenue, according to a crime alert sent by the Denver Police Department.
The suspect told the victim he was with the fire department and needed to investigate a gas leak, said DPD. As the resident opened the door, the suspect forced his way into the house and attacked her with a weapon that police identified as either a box cutter or a paint scrapper.
Police said the victim was able to fight the man off, who then fled in an unknown direction.
The victim described the suspect as a black male in his 30s, 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-8, black medium-length hair that was in corn rows, a short goatee and having a thin build. She said he wore a black jacket, black jeans and black boots.
