DENVER — After the Denver Broncos loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLVIII, defensive end Shaun Phillips shared a heart-warming text message exchange with his son.

It’s a reminder that there is more to life than sports.

Phillips was apparently feeling down after the game and sent his son a text message saying “Sorry I let you down.”

His son, Jayden, replied, “It’s okay daddy u r still my hero” (sic).

That likely helped a tough night get better for Phillips.

“Well at least we get to hang out now,” he replied.

Phillips tweeted the text message exchange Sunday night. It had 7,600 retweets and 7,800 favorites by 2 p.m. Monday.

So if the Broncos had won (or done better), he wouldn’t hang out with his kid? It shouldn’t matter if he won or lost, he should be hanging out with his kid(s) regardless.

Umm…. he tweeted the wonderfully sweet text his son sent him “…U R still my hero” … C’mon – what parent doesn’t melt when their babies let them know how awesome you still are as a parent in their eyes. Geez, I have a saved mini cassette tape from my old voicemail machine of my son telling me how much loves me. It’s precious and priceless.

Football is just a game people. I wish I had my son around to hang with. Life is short and tomorrow is not promised. Give your children extra hugs because they may not always be around, but the game of football will be. Tomorrow isn’t promised but there’s always next year. What I would give to have another year with my son….or daughter…..or wife is not able to be measured or evaluated. Life is NOT about football, it’s just a game people!
