DENVER — The University of Denver issued a warning Friday night after a man tried to lure a boy into his vehicle.

The incident happened Tuesday night. In a posting on DU’s website, a spokesperson said the 12-year-old boy was at a basketball game in the Ritchie Center when a man approached him and told the boy he was supposed to take him home.

The boy told the man his mother was nearby and the man left, the statement said.

The man was between 18 and 22 years old, was white, had a medium build and brown hair. He was wearing dark jeans with white scrape marks, a black hoodie sweatshirt and 2 or 3 lanyards in his pockets. One was yellow and was hanging several inches out of his pants pocked, the statement said.

Denver police said they are investigating the incident.
