WESTMINSTER, Colo. -- A day after her one year old child was shot and killed allegedly by her ex-boyfriend, a 21-year-old mother is sharing the details about what happened in an apparent brutal murder suicide.
"I miss her hug, I miss her kiss," said Kim Phantahovngsa in an exclusive interview with FOX31 Denver on Tuesday. The single mother, who considers the last 24 hours a living nightmare, explained in detail the moments leading up to the point when her daughter was shot in a small Westminster apartment.
"I was on the phone with the officer, next thing I heard was the officer, was a gunshot ... it was my daughter he shot my daughter." The mother explains she had awakened Monday morning to her ex-boyfriend, 22-year-old Merrick McKoy, standing over her with a gun threatening to pull the trigger.
After a brief struggle she escaped to a nearby apartment to call for help but before police could intervene it's believed McKoy pulled the trigger.
On Tuesday, FOX31 Denver learned through paperwork from the Adams County Clerk of Court that a restraining order had been taken out in September against Phantahovgnsa's ex-boyfriend after she claimed to have received threatening text messages.
"If he threatened to kill me, why not do it, why you have to threaten my daughter, she don't know nothing ... she don't know anything that's going on." added the grieving mother.
Late Tuesday, the Westminster Police Department confirmed the 22-year-old suspect remained in a nearby hospital but more details on his condition could not be released.
