"Innocent until proven guilty." That seems to be the consensus among Colorado Avalanche fans towards goaltender Semyon Varlamov who was arrested this past week on domestic abuse allegations.
Varlamov appeared in court on Thursday and faces charges of second-degree kidnapping and third-degree assault in connection with an incident involving his girlfriend on October 28.
The goalie was in net in Dallas on Friday and helped the Avs beat the Stars in overtime.
"I think he should be until he's proven one way or the other," said Trey Beard when asked if Varlamov should be playing. "Absolutely the American way. That's the way I would want to be treated if I was accused of something."
Beard made his comments before the Avs hosted the Montreal Canadiens at Pepsi Center on Saturday night. The Avs won 4-1 with Jean-Sebastien Giguere in goal.
Prosecutors have several more days to file charges against Varlamov who would not comment on the incident when asked about it on Friday.
