Jennifer Broome takes us to Woody Creek Distillers as she explores Colorado.
It’s the only potato vodka producer in the United States using fresh potatoes. Woody Creek Distillers grow their potatoes near Aspen along Woody Creek in the Roaring Fork Valley. They are the only distillery in North America to use the Polish potato varietal Stobrawa. In the multi-million dollar distillery, they use Carl Industries stills, which were handmade and imported from Germany. Entering their first competition this year, Woody Creek Distillers signature vodka of 100% potatoes took the silver at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
Woody Creek Distillers is hyper local and source their ingredients within a 200 mile range of the distillery. In addition to growing potatoes at Scanlan Ranch near Woody Creek, they also source local fruits, grains, and mountain spring water to produce their line of ultra-premium American spirits like a Colorado Whiskey and Pear Brandy, in addition to their vodka. Owners Mark Kleckner and Pat Scanlan are engineers turned distillers.
The tasting room and distillery are in Basalt.
