FREDERICK, Colo. -- A 3-year-old boy who was taken to a hospital with a head injury may have been shot in the head.
Police say he may have accidentally shot himself in the head.
Police were called to the child's home in Frederick around 10 a.m. Monday when his mother called 911 saying he had fallen and was bleeding from a head wound, said Frederick Police Chief Gary Barbour.
The mother said the boy was not breathing.
Police and paramedics responded and the boy was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Lafayette. He died around 11:15, Barbour said.
Investigators said they found a gun near the child in the home and "it appeared to have been fired," Barbour said.
No names have been released and no suspects have been arrested.
Barbour said police are still investigating the incident.
