With all that back-to-school shopping over, one expert on retailing says now is the time to get good deals at the mall.
Ross Kenneth Urken is Personal Finance Editor for The Street. He has a list of the five best things to buy in the fall.
“Between the back to school time and before the start of the Christmas shopping season is a great time to buy. You can actually get great deals on particular item namely wine, large appliances, cars, computers and gym memberships.”
“So everybody loves to open a great bottle of wine in the fall. What makes it taste a little bit sweater is the savants. It is really the harvest season, it’s great stomping season, there is water selection if you think about the boogie that comes out or the Bogle phantom wine which is a great autumn one. You are able to get great taste at great value.”
“Anytime you have more supply and moderate demand the economics play to the advantage of the consumer.
“So gym memberships are fantastic in the fall though you wouldn’t necessarily think it. We always see that the promotions come out for the gym body for the summer the beach bod or for New Year resolutions time come January first. But the market is actually softer in the fall and so gyms want to get new blood into their arenas. So you are able to get a little bit of a score on gym membership signup fee or you might have the gym through in personal training sessions on the cheap or completely for free. ”
“Home appliances are fantastic to buy in the fall just by virtue of the fact that new models are coming into the show room and the retailers are trying to get the old models out. So you can get about twenty five percent off. My recommendation from “The Street” is that you actually try and purchase the floor model. Because some of the wear and tear the dings and the dents in that washer dryer or in that dishwasher can allow you some bargaining power with the store clerk”
