Slideshow: Fort Carson troops evacuate residents in Boulder County

BOULDER COUNTY, Colo. — Almost 100 soldiers from Fort Carson helped to evacuate residents stranded in Boulder County Saturday.

Using Chinook and Blackhawk helicopters, soldiers were able to evacuate more than 700 people, said Maj. Earl Brown.

The evacuation included 85 Denver-area 5th graders who were at camps in Cal-wood and Balarat.

About 250 family pets were also evacuated from homes.

“This is a team effort assisting, working with the Colorado National Guard to help protect our communities and save lives,” said Brown. “This is why we train the way we do and we so we can support to our communities all along the Front Range, from droughts to deluge – Fort Carson has answered the call.”
