LONGMONT, Colo. — Police are investigating a double shooting that killed a 72-year-old and wounded her 80-year-old husband Thursday.

Boulder County authorities identified the woman Friday as Judith Ecker. Her husband, Raymond Ecker, was in critical condition at the hospital.

A call came to emergency communications at 1:12 p.m. Thursday from an 80-year-old man. “He reported he shot his wife, who is 72, and made statements he planned to shoot himself,” says Longmont Police Commander Jeffrey Satur.

Officers went into the apartment at 2400 17th Ave. at about 1:55 p.m. “They found the woman deceased in the apartment,” Satur says. “The male is still alive and he has been transported to the Longmont United Hospital with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.”

Investigators expected to be at the apartment through the evening after they received their search warrant.
