Car with oxygen tanks in trunk explodes after crash

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- A simple car crash became a dangerous fire after oxygen tanks inside the trunk of one car exploded.

KRDO-TV reported a Volkswagen Jetta rear ended a black Mercedes on Highway 115 and Cheyenne Mountain Boulevard Wednesday afternoon.

The Mercedes was stopped at a stop light when it was hit.

The Mercedes had oxygen tanks stored in the trunk, and after the car caught fire, the tanks exploded.

Colorado Springs police said the driver of the Mercedes suffered a spinal fracture.

The driver of the car that hit him, identified as Joshua Morgan, was arrested on a charge of suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.
