Sports equipment donated in memory of Aurora theater victim
DENVER — Saturday marked the second year in a row that a fundraiser was held to honor the memory of Aurora theater shooting victim Jessica Redfield Ghawi.
Ghawi was shot and killed in the theater last summer, but before she died, she wanted to help Colorado families. She wanted to help by giving back to kids who needed sports equipment.
It makes sense why the fundraiser was named the Jessica Redfield Ghawi giveSPORTS Equipment Drive, because Jessica loved sports. She was a former intern in the FOX31 sports department and had her sights on becoming a sportscaster.
Jessica’s family and Kroenke Sports Charities gathered in the south parking lots at the Pepsi Center Saturday to collect donations of new and used sports equipment from 7 a.m. to noon.
Last year, more than 25,000 items were donated.
