BOULDER, Colo. — The Boulder County Bomb Squad was called to investigate two suspicious devices in Lefthand Canyon Tuesday.

The devices, which were constructed with PVC type piping and a fuse ignition, were rendered safe by bomb technicians later Tuesday afternoon.

Deputies said a fisherman found the devices on the Buckingham Park property, which is approximately the 3 mile marker of Lefthand Canyon.

No evacuations were necessary, and the road was closed only for a short period of time.

According to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, a hiker who was traveling along the creek in Lefthand Canyon west of Old Stage Road was the first to report seeing two PVC pipes partially buried in the sand with wires sticking out of the top at 7:20 p.m. Monday.

Deputies said the hiker left the area and was unable to return to the spot where he found the pipes.

Investigators searched the area for an hour Monday, but did not find the described devices. Upon returning to the location Tuesday, deputies found the PVC pipes and called the bomb squad to determine whether they were explosives.
