Cabela’s draws thousands for openings in Lone Tree, Thornton
THORNTON, Colo. — About 1,000 lined up on Wednesday for a special early opening of the new Cabela’s store in Thornton. Those numbers appeared on the way to at least tripling as a pair of the outdoor superstores, the first of their kind on the Front Range, officially opened their doors on Thursday.
In addition to the Thornton store, another Cabela’s has slowly risen down south in Lone Tree over the past year. Each store features over 90,000 square feet of merchandise.
Both stores will officially open at 11 a.m., and both will give away a free $500 gift card to the first 500 customers that scamper through their doors on Thursday.
People began camping out at the Thornton store Wednesday afternoon, while the queuing at the Lone Tree store began around 8 p.m. due to city ordinances.
Cabela’s made its first foray into the state of Colorado in 2010, with the opening of facility in Grand Junction. The major outdoor retailer is looking to capitalize on the $13.2 billion Coloradans spend on such products every year.
