JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. -- The driver of the pickup truck that plunged off U.S. Highway 6 into Clear Creek on Monday has been identified.

Colorado State Patrol identified the driver as 38-year-old Joshua Tracy from Highlands Ranch.

Investigators said Tracy died instantly, though they couldn't say whether it was the cold water or crash that killed him. On Tuesday, troopers said speed may have been a factor in the crash, but investigators continue to look into the cause.

They said where the truck landed is a clue that the driver may have been going too fast.

The truck was found overturned and badly mangled, with the passenger compartment  peeled back from the impact.

Investigators' flares marked the tracks on US 6 not far from Highway 119 where Tracy lost control of his truck.
