JACKSON, Tenn. — A woman who was suffering from back pain was shocked and insulted after a Tennessee doctor gave her an unusual diagnoses.

Terry Ragland, 55, had been to the doctor’s office several times before, but was taken aback when Dr. Timothy Sweo diagnosed her with having “ghetto booty,” according to Memphis’ WREG News.

“I think I blacked out after he said ghetto booty. I think my mind was just stuck on the phrase because I couldn’t believe he said that,” Ragland told the station.

The Tennessee woman said her back hurt because her hip felt like it was slipping out of place, which made it painful to get up and walk around. After Dr. Sweo took a few X-rays, he concluded that Ragland’s ghetto booty was to blame.

“He said there’s no cure for it, but I could give you something if you’re having pain,” Ragland told reporters.

After she told the office manager about the incident, Ragland said she received a letter from Dr. Sweo explaining that he was, “Trying to take a technical conversation regarding your lower back and make it less technical.”

Dr. Sweo was apparently using the term to describe “lumbar lordosis,” the medical term for a curve in Ragland’s spine.

Ragland has filed a complaint with the Tennessee Department of Health, and she’s hoping that she is the last patient who has this experience.

“It’s not endearing. It’s not loving. It’s not a compliment. It’s wrong in every aspect and it’s very demeaning,” Ragland said.
