Toddler held at knifepoint in Walmart; Police shoot suspect
MIDWEST CITY, Okla. — A man abducted and then held a toddler hostage with a knife at a Walmart before he was shot by police last month.
Sammie Lamont Wallace, 37, walked into the Walmart Neighborhood Market and picked up a 2-year-old girl while her mother was not looking.
According to KFOR-TV, police tried to negotiate with Wallace but after several minutes of negotiating, police said Wallace began to count down the time left on the child’s life and acted like he was going to stab her.
Eventually one police negotiator distracted Wallace while another shot him at point blank range.
The girl was not injured.
Officials said Wallace did not know the toddler and they are still trying to determine his motive for the crime.
