MAPLEWOOD, Minn. — A helicopter crashed into a detached garage in a neighborhood on the east side of the Twin Cities early Wednesday morning.

Minnesota’s FOX 9 KMSP-TV reported that the crash happened in the 2700 block of 7th Street, just east of St. Paul around 8 a.m.

A witness told FOX 9 that she heard what initially sounded like a plane flying over her home before she heard a boom, and saw smoke and flames coming from her neighbor’s garage.

The woman immediately called 911 as other neighbors tried to put out the fire with garden hoses, the station reported.

The FAA is investigating the cause of the crash.

The Star Tribune reported that the helicopter may have been doing mosquito control spraying when the crash happened.
