DENVER — A man who set out on a 486-mile hike from Waterton Canyon to Durango has gone missing, deputies said.

Tom Spencer Owens was last heard from on Saturday.

“He is supposed to send an ‘ok’ from his SPOT device every night,” said the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department in an online posting.

Owens’ last ping was Saturday and he hasn’t been heard from since.

Deputies said Owens planned to camp in a one-man tent along the Colorado Trail.

He has salt and pepper hair, is 5 feet 10 inches tall and has brown eyes. Owens may be wearing a hat and parachute pants that unzip into shorts and will look unkempt, deputies said.

Anyone who sees Owens is asked to call deputies at 303-814-7131.
