DENVER -- A man who died Sunday when his car crashed into a Green Valley Ranch home was identified Monday.

Michael Kent Pimentel, 51, of Denver died at the scene, according to the Denver Police Department.

The accident happened about 8:15 a.m. at  20995 E 49th Ave. Pimentel's vehicle flew off the road and into a subdivision, clearing a 4-foot-high fence, police said. The car struck a support post, causing an I-beam to drop onto the driver’s side of the vehicle.

A witness tried to extricate the victim, but was concerned about the still-turning and smoking tires, bystanders said. The witness went to get a fire extinguisher as his daughter called 9-1-1, but Pimentel died at the scene.
