Judge not amused when Chad Johnson slaps attorney on bottom

FLORIDA — Former NFL standout and media darling Chad Johnson is back in the news, this time for unintentionally causing a courtroom to erupt in laughter and angering the presiding judge.
Johnson was in a Florida courtroom facing parole violation charges. Judge Kathleen McHugh asked Johnson if he was satisfied with his attorney. In response Johnson gave his attorney, Adam Swickle a quick pat on the butt.
This is not standard court room behavior, and caused those in attendance to roar in laughter. Judge McHugh was not amused unfortunately.
“There’s nothing funny about what’s going on here today,” said Judge McHugh. Johnson replied that he wasn’t laughing and didn’t do it as a joke.
It appears Judge McHugh took matters personally. Rejecting a plea deal that would have required Johnson to perform community service and attend even more anger management classes, the judge threw the proverbial book at the former NFL star. In addition to a 30 day jail sentence, three months was added to his one-year probation, which was ending in September.
Johnson is on probation for domestic violence charges. Police claim he head-butted his former wife during an argument at their Florida residence. Shortly after the incident, Johnson was released during the 2012 preseason by the Miami Dolphins.
Ever the optimist, Johnson tweeted, “Love me through the good and the bad because I’m gone love you regardless. See you in 30.”
