Denver ranks No. 3 on most ‘bikeable cities’ list
DENVER — Did you drive to work today? Or do you prefer riding your bike wherever you go?
According to the people at Walk Score, Denver ranks No. 3 on the 10 most bikeable large U.S. and Canadian cities list. Denver fell behind Portland, Ore., which topped the list at No. 1, and San Francisco, Calif., which was named the second most “bikeable city.”
The list is based on factors such as bike lanes, hills, intersection density, average block length, the number of bikers on the road and other bicycle infrastructure.
According to the AtlanticCities.com, the number of people in 55 of America’s largest metro areas whose commutes involved bicycles rose 70 percent between 200 and 2009.
An increase in the number of urban street landscapes and concerns over global warming are among the reasons for people who have made the switch.
