LOVELAND, Colo. -- Loveland Police warned the community Wednesday about two men who allegedly tried getting a little girl into their van.

It happened Monday about 3:30 p.m. near Lucile Erwin Middle School at 4700 Lucerne Ave. Police call it a suspicious circumstance at this point.

“Ever since the kidnapping of Jessica and all that, it’s kind of creepy,” says 8th grader Alexis Deardorff after school Wednesday.

On Monday--just like Wednesday--as students left school for home, a 12-year-old girl on her bike got the scare of her life when two men pulled up beside her in a van near 43rd St. and Georgetown Dr.

“The passenger repeatedly asked her to get in the van. She was frightened, so she rode away and while riding away she crashed,” says Loveland Police Sgt. Mike Halloran.

A teenaged boy helped her up and the van drove off.

The girl describes it as a blue, delivery-style van with a white top and either yellow writing or an emblem on it.

“It scared me because sometimes I walk that way,” says one 6th grader, whose father didn’t want us to identify.

Students and parents say the encounter hits too close to home.

“Had she not run off or the teen helped her, they might have gotten her. It’s very frightening,” says one father who didn’t want to give his name.

“I ride my long board to school so it’s kind of creepy. I’m always having to text my mom where I am at. She’s always freaking out and calling me on my way home,” says Deardorff.

And some say they aren’t taking any chances with their kids.

“She probably won’t be walking home for a little while. There’s only a couple weeks of school. I’ll probably just come get her,” says Jen Atchison about her 8th grade daughter.

Loveland Police say the passenger is a white man, 30 to 40 years old, wearing a white tank top, with brown shaggy hair and a large tattoo on his upper right arm.

The driver is a Hispanic man, about the same age, with short black hair.

Police would like to talk to the teenaged boy who helped the girl up from her fall.
