Suspect arrested in motorcycle death of off-duty officer

AURORA, Colo. -- Police have arrested a suspect who allegedly crashed into an off-duty Littleton police officer on Monday.

Jemal Abdelkader Dawed, 37, faces charges including driving under the influence, careless driving and failure to yield the right of way, said Lt. Jeff Turner of the Aurora Police Department.

Police said Dawed crashed into Officer Kevin Denner around 11:30 a.m. Monday at East Belleview Avenue and South De Gaulle Street. Denner was riding his motorcycle at the time.

Denner hit the passenger side of Dawed's Toyota car and died at the scene, police said.

Dawed stayed at the scene and was taken into custody.

According to a news release, Denner is survived by his wife and two young children ages 8 and 9.
