Hiker finds human remains on JeffCo ridge ‘in middle of nowhere’

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. — A hiker traveling through a remote portion of Jefferson County found a collection of human remains late Monday night.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the remains were found on a Hogback Ridge trail west of C-470 near Bowles Avenue, are skeletal in nature and “appear to have been there for some time” in a tweet Tuesday morning.

“Identity, gender and cause of death are unknown,” the tweet continued.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Jacki Kelly also confirmed the remains discovered are indeed human and mysterious.

“The trail where these remains were discovered is in the middle of nowhere,” Kelly said. “Really the best way to describe the area is that it’s on the side of a mountain.”
