DENVER — A college student from Evergreen was killed in an Iowa car crash during the weekend, the school announced in a media release.

Cornell College freshman Madison “Addie” Hubert, 18, was a passenger in a Buick Rendezvous that collided with another car on Highway 1 near Mount Vernon, Iowa, Saturday night. She died in the crash.

Wilbur Bigler, 68, lost control of his car and swerved into the path of the oncoming Rendezvous, KCRG.com reported. Bigler was also killed in the crash and four other people in the Rendezvous were hospitalized.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Addie and the injuries to (sophomore Colin Bertucci),” Cornell president Jonathan Brand said. “Cornell is a close community and everyone is affected.”

A memorial service was held on the Cornell campus Sunday.
