Semi catches fire in multi-car pileup, shuts down I-25

JOHNSON'S CORNER, Colo. -- A severe accident occurred along northbound I-25 at Johnson’s Corner about 8:24 a.m. Saturday. The crash caused a semi-truck to catch fire at mile marker 253.

Officials revised Sunday the number of vehicles involved in the accident to 50, including seven semi-trucks. One person suffered serious injuries but is expected to survive.

Several  people were taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. No fatalities have been reported.

Snowy weather and poor driving conditions are being considered as main factors in the crashes, but no official cause will be released until at least Tuesday, the Colorado State Patrol said.

Northbound traffic on I-25 at Johnson’s Corner was closed for several hours but has since reopened.
