DENVER — A video showing child pornography went viral on Facebook Friday getting over 16,000 shares.

The social network has pulled the video from it’s severs, but only after about eight hours of being spread around.

According to people who have seen the video, it shows a young girl being abused by an older man. The video was shared over 16,000 times and received almost 4,000 likes, reported the Independent newspaper.

Gawker reported “many of those sharing the abuse video appear to have been doing it out of disgust rather than appreciation.”

Facebook moved quickly to remove the video, but users took screen shots of it and circulated them in an attempt to warn other internet users.

A Facebook spokesperson said “Nothing is more important to Facebook than the safety of the people that user our site, and this material has no place on Facebook.”

Many people took to Twitter to express their anger about seeing the video.
