UPDATE: Video now called a fake prank
(KDVR) — NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon went undercover for a Pepsi MAX promotional prank where he pretended to an amateur and then drove a Camaro around a dealership like James Bond.
In the video Gordon acts like a shy customer interested in buying the 2009 Chevy Camaro. The salesman, Steve, convinces him to take a test drive.
Gordon starts out timid driving the Camaro, even a bit uncoordinated. He then floors the accelerator and takes the terrified salesman on a wild ride.
“You’re an idiot,” his visibly distraught passenger says in the clip. “I’m going to kill you… Stop, stop, stop, oh God Almighty.”
When the test drive ends, the Steve threatens to call the police. Gordon reveals the prank, to which the salesman surprisingly responds, “Want to do it again?”
Right This Minute, a TV show that specializes in viral videos, spoke with the owner of the car dealership, Wayne Troutman.
Troutman said he was contacted by Pepsi who asked to use his dealership for the prank.
“They supplied the car it was a very high performance car since they new they would be going with some special tricks with that one,” Troutman said.
Gordon “actually tried to ahead of time pick the salesman he thought would be the best one to try to pull the prank on. We actually loaned Jeff a 1998 Chevy Venture Van to ride in in so he looked like he was another normal North Carolina redneck,” Troutman said.
As for the victim of the prank, Troutman said Steve “was really hot when he came back in as you could see from the video.”
“Once he realized he’d been punked he settled down,” Troutman said. “In fact he actually went out on another normal ride with Jeff.”
