LONGMONT, Colo. — One person is dead, two are injured — along with a dog — and one man is in jail after a wild car chase involving Longmont Police Wednesday night.
Police said Pablo Bustillos started the chase when he fled instead of pulling over for a traffic stop. The officer who was trying to pull Bustillos over suspected he was either drunk or high, as his vehicle was drifting in and out of lanes near 10th Avenue and Collyer Street.
Though officers momentarily lost Bustillos near the intersection of 19th Avenue and Collyer Street, they spotted him a few moments later traveling westbound on 17th Avenue near Collyer Street at a high rate of speed.
After blowing through a red light at the intersection of Main Street and 17th Avenue, Bustillos’ vehicle collided with another vehicle that was carrying a driver, two passengers inside and a dog.
The 21-year-old male driver was transported to a nearby hospital but died of his injuries. The two passengers, a 23-year-old female and a 24-year-old female, suffered significant trauma, according to police, but both were expected to survive. The dog was treated at a nearby veterinarian and due to be released on Thursday.
Bustillos was treated and released into the Boulder County Jail. Longmont Police say he has an extensive criminal record and had a warrant out for a parole violation at the time of his arrest.
