DENVER — The 29-year-old man who was struck by a light rail train early Wednesday morning has died, according to police.

According to the Denver Police department, the accident took place at the 10th and Osage station at approximately 4:50 a.m. Though Delrod Spearman suffered critical injuries, police said he was conscious and transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

An RTD spokesperson said Spearman stepped directly in front of a southbound train at the 10th and Osage station at approximately 4:50 a.m. Though the operator hit the brakes immediately, Spearman was still struck, the spokesperson said.

Service was stopped for about an hour but RTD said light rail movement both north and southbound had resumed at 6:30 a.m. The accident also closed the 10th and Osage station, but it was reopened as of 7 a.m.

A shuttle bus was set up between the I-25/Broadway and Colfax stations to ferry passengers affected by the closure.
