Police identify man shot, killed in Lakewood; arrest 3 after chase
Lakewood police say a shooting that killed one happened in the parking lot of this apartment complex on Feb. 28, 2013.
LAKEWOOD, Colo. — A man was shot and killed in the parking lot of a Lakewood apartment complex Thursday morning. On Friday, police released the identity of the 21-year-old.
Police say Zachary David Gonzales was gunned down at approximately 9:45 a.m. in the 1200 block of Yarrow St. near Jefferson County Open School.
Witnesses told FOX31 Denver they heard seven gun shots. Police arrived on the scene to find the 21-year-old victim on the ground. He died a short time later at a hospital.
At approximately 3 p.m. Thursday, police located a black Dodge Durango that they believed to be involved in the shooting. When officers attempted to make a traffic stop, the vehicle led them on a high-speed chase that ended up in the 2800 block of Shoshone Street in Englewood.
Three men were taken into custody shortly after the chase concluded. Lakewood police had not released the identify of those three men as of Friday morning.
Jefferson County School District confirmed that Jefferson County Open School was on lockout while police investigated the shooting, but that lockout was lifted around 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
