In winter Georgetown Lake becomes icy race course
GEORGETOWN, Colo. — Every weekend, this group causes drivers in I-70′s ski traffic to turn their heads and wonder, “What’s that?”
The Our Gang 4 Wheelers Ice Racing club has been racing in circles on frozen lakes for 37 years. They currently race on Georgetown Lake in Georgetown, Colo., for six weekends through January and February.
Josh McGuckin races his Subaru, complete with spiked tires. He said he’s not that good at racing, but he has other reasons for being involved.
“Look at it–it’s just a fun time,” McGuckin said.
Organizers emphasize that spectators are always free–but you might want to bring your earplugs because the engines get loud.
