CASTLE ROCK, Colo. -- A Castle Rock police officer opened fire on three burglary suspects Thursday afternoon after police said their getaway car started driving aggressively towards officers.

Police chief Jack Cauley said officers received a call from a resident in the Plum Creek subdivision who reported hearing a loud bang around 1:05 p.m.

According to police scanner traffic officers received a report of three men in black near a blue SUV.

Responding officers found the SUV and approached it, but it sped away.

Cauley said the SUV started driving aggressively towards police, and that's when one of the officers opened fire.

It's not yet clear how many shots were fired. No one was hit.

The driver of the vehicle then stopped, and two men got out and tried to run away. Police were able to arrest both as well as a third person in the vehicle.

Cauley said investigators initially received conflicting reports of a fourth person, but later confirmed that only the three arrested were involved in the attempted burglary.

The search is in the area of Mango and Balsa drives.

Daniel C. Oakes High School was placed on lockdown for a time but dismissed at its regular time, Cauley said.
