DENVER – A woman was killed early Sunday morning attempting to dash across Interstate 25 in Lone Tree, police reported.

A driver traveling north in a pickup truck saw the victim running west across the freeway, City of Lone Tree Public Information Officer Kristen Knoll said. The driver tried to swerve around the pedestrian, but struck her with the passenger side front corner of the vehicle. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver was arrested for operating a vehicle without a valid driver’s license, but was not thought to have been under the influence of any substances, police said.

The identity of the pedestrian is unknown at this time, but officials were following up on a lead.
