Suspect shot by Woodland Park police dies

WOODLAND PARK, Colo. — Authorities announced Wednesday the suspect shot by Woodland Park police during a traffic stop Tuesday died.
Police stopped a station wagon driven by 20-year-old Craig Bondo of Colorado Springs at 2:26 p.m. on eastbound U.S. Highway 24 near the Walmart store.
“While officers were talking to the driver, it was discovered that the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Colorado Springs. As the officers attempted to detain the driver, he attempted to flee, striking one of the officers with the vehicle,” a press release from the Fourth Judicial District Attorney’s Office says.
An officer fired and the suspect was hit. He later died at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs.
The officer involved in the shooting is on routine administrative leave during the investigation.
