Betsy Andreu, wife of former Lance Armstrong teammate Frankie Andreu, reacted immediately after seeing Armstrong’s Oprah Winfrey interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper.
She said she is disappointed and furious that Armstrong “didn’t tell the truth.”
Andreu her husband both testified that Armstrong had talked about his doping in front of them. Armstrong testified under oath that he never told them any of it, and then tried to smear both their reputations in an effort to undermine their testimony.
In particular, Andreu was wondering why Armstrong spent so much on semantics in his interview with Oprah — not focusing so much on what he did say, but on what he didn’t say.
“I told (Betsy) listen,” Armstrong said during his interview with Oprah. “I called you crazy, I call you a b*tch, but I never called you fat. She has said I called her a ‘fat, crazy b*tch.'”
The road to redemption that Armstrong is apparently seeking is one that Andreu expects to be “long.” And she told Cooper she is disappointed that he, in her estimation, is “starting it the wrong way.”
“That exchange (with Oprah) has me furious,” Andreu said. “This was a guy who used to be my friend and he decimated me. He could have come clean. He owed it to me. He owes it to the sport that he destroyed. And he didn’t give it to us.”
