LONGMONT, Colo. – Police in Longmont are looking for a gun that a resident accidentally dropped while riding a scooter on a bicycle path.

Cmdr. Jeff Satur said police volunteers and a K9 unit looked for the .380 semiautomatic pistol along the man’s route.

The man, who has not been identified, told police he dropped the weapon along the Rough & Ready Trail between 9th and 19th avenues. The trail runs north-south between Pace and Alpine streets.

The man has a concealed carry permit and told police he thought it fell out of the holster, Satur said.

The gun was loaded when it was lost.

Three schools and the Skyline East Athletic Field are nearby, and police are worried a child may find the gun along the path.

Satur said parents should be on the lookout as well.
