DENVER — A man who became stuck in a northwest Denver trench Wednesday morning was found unconscious when emergency crews arrived on the scene.

Efforts to revive the man were unsuccessful, and he died on site.

According to Denver Fire spokesman Mark Watson, emergency crews received word at approximately 11:16 a.m. that one of the workers on a sewer line in the alley 4200 North Grove Street had become buried up to his waist in dirt.

Watson said the man was found near 4251 Grove Street. When crews arrived, they took part in efforts to resuscitate the man, but he did not survive.

As of 12:30 p.m., Watson could not confirm how the man, who had not yet been identified, came to be buried in the trench.
