HAZARD, Ky. — A gunman fired into a vehicle and killed a man and a woman in a parking lot at Hazard Community College in Kentucky. A 12-year-old girl was injured and hospitalized on Wednesday.

Police say they have a 21-year-old man in custody and they blame the double murder on a domestic dispute.

The shooting happened Tuesday night and the campus in southeastern Kentucky immediately went on lock down. It was closed Wednesday.

The suspect, Dalton Stidham faces two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder.

Hazard police Chief Minor Allen says the shooting was the result of a dispute between the suspect and the woman who was killed, 20-year-old Caitlin Cornett. The man who died was Caitlin’s uncle, Jackie Cornett, 53.

The 12-year-old who was critically injured is Jackie Cornett’s daughter.

Caitlin Cornett was a student at the college and police said she and the suspect were in a relationship that ended a couple of months ago. They had a 2-year-old child together and they were meeting to exchange custody of him.

Investigators did not say what led to the shooting.
