Former Broncos quarterback Jeff Lewis passes away at 39

Former Broncos quarterback Jeff Lewis died Saturday at the age of 39.
Lewis played for the Broncos from 1996-98, and shared the team’s victory in winning Super Bowl XXXII.
He was also assistant football coach at Northern Arizona. The school did not say how Lewis died, but confirmed he passed away Saturday in Phoenix.
Today is a very sad day for the Lumberjack football family,” Northern Arizona coach Jerome Souers said. “Jeff was one of the best Lumberjacks of all time and a valuable member of our program.”
Lewis also played for the Carolina Panthers and the New Orleans Saints.
“We are deeply saddened by the death of former Broncos quarterback Jeff Lewis,” the Broncos said in a statement. “Our most heartfelt condolences and prayers go out to Jeff’s family and friends.”
Saturday night, John Elway tweeted, “Jeff Lewis was a great teammate and brought great energy to me and our team. He will be missed. My condolences to Jeff’s family.”
