1 killed, 2 seriously injured after collision in Durango

DURANGO, Colo. – One female passenger was killed, and two others were seriously injured after a head-on collision in Durango Saturday afternoon.

The Durango Herald reported that Colorado State Patrol arrived in the 3100 block of U.S. Highway 160 near Elmore’s Corner at about 2:24 p.m. after they were notified about the accident.

At least one victim had to be extricated from the vehicle, the paper reported.

According to troopers, the female passenger was headed westbound in an SUV on U.S Highway 160 when the car collided with another SUV going in the opposite direction. Both drivers involved in the crash were injured.

Personal belongings and a piece of furniture were among the things tossed from one or both of the vehicles during the crash, the paper reported.

Authorities are not releasing the names of the victims until their families are notified.
