LAKEWOOD, Colo. – Police arrested a man they say fled after robbing a Lakewood store at gunpoint Saturday afternoon.

According to police, 35-year-old Adam James Wainwright entered the Supplement Giant store located at 98 Wadsworth Blvd. shortly after 1 p.m., where he pulled out a handgun and demanded money from the clerk. Wainwright escaped with an undisclosed amount of money, according to police.

About 25 minutes later, officers said an officer noticed a person in the area who matched the suspect’s general description, but he had on different clothes. Investigators found out Wainwright stopped at a nearby clothing store to buy a change of clothes after robbing the Supplement Giant.

Wainwright is being held at the Jefferson County jail on charges of aggravated robbery and second-degree kidnapping.

Police said Wainwright had a warrant out for his arrest for a theft case out of California.
