AURORA, Colo. — Meeting Santa Claus is a standard holiday tradition, but for some kids with health issues, sitting on St. Nick’s lap can be diffucult.

That’s why the Children’s Hospital of Colorado brought the North Pole to them — linking sick kids with Santa via live teleconferencing technology.

“To say they light up is an understatement,” said Kristina Lyons, who helped with the Cisco-Santa Connection Program. “It is the best day of the year. Selling this technology is great, but seeing it for a use like this is really remarkable.”

Greg Mansfield, who’s young son is undergoing treatment for a virus and can’t leave his hospital room, says the program brightened up his son’s day.

“He’s getting to that age where he’s starting to realize who Santa Claus is, so he really got a kick out of that,” said Mansfield.

More than 25 hospitals nationwide participate in the Cisco-Santa Connection program every year.
