Scam alert: Kidnapper claims to have Dylan Redwine, wants ransom

LA PLATA COUNTY, Colo. — A man claiming to have kidnapped missing Durango teen Dylan Redwine is asking for money in exchange for the child’s release on Facebook.

Investigators are calling it a scam.

The La Plata County Sheriff’s Office says someone on Facebook named “Abass Gadafi” is claiming to be holding Dylan Redwine captive. And this individual says there is a photo that proves it.

How might one obtain said photo? By ponying up $1,000. To secure Redwine’s release, the self-described abductor wants another $4,000.

The sheriff’s office says it’s all a scam. And if you’re contacted by this person, police are advising you to notify authorities.

The 13-year-old Redwine went missing near Durango on Nov. 19. Investigators do not believe he ran away.
