AURORA, Colo. – Aurora police have arrested a man in connection with two sexual assaults and an attempted sex assault, investigators said Tuesday.

Cameron Washington, 30, of Denver, was arrested Monday night, said spokesman Frank Fania.

The sex assaults all happened in the same area near S. Chambers Road and E. Exposition Avenue. Between Nov. 22 and 30, Fania said.

Washington is being held in the Arapahoe county jail on charges of first-degree sexual assault, first-degree burglary, felony menacing and theft.

Fania said police were able to make the link to Washington after DNA collected from one of the crime scenes matched a sample in the state database that belonged to Washington from a previous conviction.

“Once the suspect had been identified, things began to unfold rapidly,” Fania said in a news release.

Members of the Gang Intervention Unit and the Fugitive Apprehension and Surveillance Team, along with other agencies, were called out to look for Washington who was eventually found in his Denver home.

“After a lengthy interview with investigators from the Sex Crimes Unit, police are confident that Washington is responsible for all three incidents,” Fania said.

Police released Washington’s photo in the hopes that any other victims that may recognize him would come forward.
