LONGMONT, Colo. — The Colorado State Patrol charged a man in September over a videotape that shows an SUV driver blaring his horn over and over again at two of cyclists on a road near Longmont.
On Nov. 14, that man, 75-year-old James Ernst of Erie, pleaded not guilty to charges of harassment, illegal use of a horn and driving too slowly. Ernst has continuously declined to speak with FOX31 Denver and other media outlets about the incident.
His son David Ernst has told several media outlets he was surprised to hear his father would behave in such a way.
The two-minute long videotape of the incident has gone viral on the and it led to the investigation and charges.
The two-minute long video, which can be seen below, was taken on Sept. 16 by two professional cyclists on a small two lane road east of Longmont and near Erie.
“It just wouldn’t let up, it was absolutely insane,” on of those cyclists, Dirk Friel, said. “The cars that come really close to you and then blast their horn, those are the scariest ones of all.”
