Police find similarities in 2 cases of man shooting at officers
WESTMINSTER, Colo. — Police need the public’s help in finding a suspect in a Wednesday morning incident involving shots fired at an officer during an attempted traffic stop in Westminster.
Westminster police said Wednesday afternoon the shooting is similar to another one that happened in Denver on Tuesday. In both shootings, the shooter and his vehicle have similar descriptions.
According to police, at about 2:45 a.m. Wednesday the officer pulled a vehicle over in the 7200 block of Sheridan Boulevard. As the officer exited his vehicle, the driver of the car shot at the officer.
The officer was not injured and the vehicle left the scene.
Police described the car as a 2000 model Cadillac with a red-dull color. The driver is described as a Native American male, clean shaven, with dark hair pulled into a pony tail.
The Tuesday morning incident took place in the 4500 block of West 1st Avenue at around 12:30 a.m.
Denver Police Spokesperson John White said the officer attempted a traffic stop and was shot at by the driver as soon as he exited his vehicle.
The suspect description in this case is a Hispanic or Native American in his mid-20s to 30s with long, dark hair. The car description in this case is a 2000 Cadillac Deville that is hand painted grey. The vehicle may have a broken passenger side window and has a South Dakota license plate of 49CAR9.
The locations of these two incidents are roughly eight miles apart.
Westminster police said they are working with Denver police to find a suspect.
